Going Away Dinner For A Good Friend

Bradley Troy Returns Home To Ohio

Lt. Sean Egan Presents Brad With Plaque

It was an interesting day back in 2000 when a Volunteer Firefighter/Paramedic from Ohio staying in Washington DC stopped at the red bricked three-story firehouse on 13th St. Northwest.

Brad Troy was in town on business for the FAA, Brad is a liaison as an Air Traffic Controller between the National Air Traffic Controllers Union and the Federal Aviation Administration.

Members of Engine 16, Truck 3 and the 6th Battalion Chief welcomed Brad and asked if he would like to join them for dinner and war stories on the front bench that evening.  It was not long after that, Brad became a good friend of the firehouse and would be assigned to the area for the next five years.

Brad was always quick to help the company members without hesitation. It didn't matter if it was assisting a civilian with directions or racking hose at 03:00 hours, sweeping and mopping floors or walking into the station with four pounds of cookies and three gallons of ice cream.

Brad quickly blended in with both companies on all shifts. When he was not present, everyone wanted to know where Brad was.

Brad, You Truly Made A Difference

+ Assisted the Company with the fallen firefighters memorial in 2002. Brad assisted in serving over 5 thousand meals in three days and keeping the station standing tall during the event.

+ Joined the Friendship Fire Association, and supported the entire department on the FFA Canteen Unit.

Brad became friends with many people from different agencies in DC., Members of the Metropolitan Police Department, MPD SOD, United States Park Police Department, USPP Aviation Division, USPP SOD,  special investigators with the GAO, White House Staffers.

Some of Brads favorite places to eat in DC were in walking distances to Engine 16. The Old Ebbitt Grill, Stoney's, Georgia Brown's, Stan's and Fran O'Brian's.  They are all reporting their bar business is down 30% since Brad returned home.

Brads grand finale included a complete White House Tour and a fly over of DC by USPP Eagle 1.  The members of platoon 3 provided dinner for Brad and his family at the fire house, he was presented a plaque for all of his work followed by lots of sincere very kind words of brotherhood from the officers and members of the station.

Brad is now back home in Ohio with his wife Denise and son Jason, he is currently updating his paramedic license.

Brad, we all wish you and your family the best, your time, dedication and friendship while in DC will always be remembered and appreciated.  We all look forward to seeing you on future visits to the Nations Capital.
