Family, friends and brother firefighters of
a D.C. firefighter who died in the Line of
Duty last Saturday remembered him as a happy
and helpful colleague and devoted husband
and father.
About
1,000 people gathered Saturday at the
Washington Convention Center to remember
James McRae III. The 37-year-old firefighter
died July 7, 2007 after suffering a heart attack
at the quarters of Engine Company 20 while
serving as the driver of Truck 12.
His
fire truck was draped with black ribbon for
a processional before the service. McRae was
a 17-year veteran of the department.
McRae
was the first casualty in eight years among
D.C. firefighters. He's the department's
99th firefighter to die on duty. |
