Fire/EMS, Police Honored at MCI Center

Public safety personnel were honored for their service in an annual event at the MCI Center that featured a display of police and Fire/EMS apparatus and gear, a professional hockey match and one not so professional hockey match.

Before the Caps’ 4-4 tie with the Atlanta Thrashers in overtime, those attending the game were able to view several pieces of heavy duty apparatus used by first responders, including DC Fire/EMS’s mobile command unit, Rescue Squad 1, and Engine 2.  Dozens of

people came by the Engine and Squad to speak to the firefighters and actually climb aboard the apparatus.

In a hotly contested match before the Caps game, DC Fire’s Hockey Team challenged MPD’s Hockey Team.  Although police won the contest, it was widely reported that ringers were utilized.  Firefighters did a good job containing the damage to the hockey rink and prevented further exposure (*editor’s note* the last two sentences are jokes – JOKES.  Lighten up).  During the final intermission, the audience heard a performance by the Emerald Society's Pipe and Drum Band.  As the selection ended, every member
of the audience and the players stood and applauded in ovation.
