An accident
involving pool chemicals brought a hazmat assignment to
the Georgetown area on Monday evening, July 9th.
The incident took place at the Georgetown Recreation
Center, 34th and Q Streets N.W., when a pump malfunction
in the pool house mechanical room sent a chlorine
solution splashing onto an employee.
First arriving firefighters and EMS personnel
immediately began decon procedures, hosing down the
victim so he could then be transported to an area hospital. A secondary
search of the area found no further victims.
The Hazmat Unit and Rescue Squad 1 entered the mechanical room and
mitigated the spill, and Truck 2 than proceeded to ventilate the area. |
