Hazmat Incident In Georgetown

An accident involving pool chemicals brought a hazmat assignment to the Georgetown area on Monday evening, July 9th.

The incident took place at the Georgetown Recreation Center, 34th and Q Streets N.W., when a pump malfunction in the pool house mechanical room sent a chlorine solution splashing onto an employee.

First arriving firefighters and EMS personnel immediately began decon procedures, hosing down the victim so he could then be transported to an area hospital. A secondary search of the area found no further victims.

The Hazmat Unit and Rescue Squad 1 entered the mechanical room and mitigated the spill, and Truck 2 than proceeded to ventilate the area.
