July 5,2007...Vito Maggiolo |
D.C. firefighters
battled a fierce post Fourth of July blaze that severely
damaged a home in the exclusive Gold Coast section of
the city.
The initial call at around 5:15 AM, July 5th, reported a
fire in the 1900 block of Tulip Street N.W. Units
arrived to find that the fire was actually at 8165 East
Beach Drive N.W., which backs up to Tulip Street, and
the rear of the home was heavily involved.
A second alarm was immediately sounded as firefighters
began an interior attack on the large, two story,
detached dwelling, which sits high on a steep incline.
An additional potential threat was an indoor swimming
pool in the immediate fire area.
A section of the roof burned away, and there was a
partial collapse on the second floor, before the flames
were finally brought under control.
All searches proved negative, and there were no
injuries.
