Units were dispatched at 9:16 AM for the house fire, 1354 Parkwood Place, Northwest in Mount Pleasant.  Firefighters found smoke showing from the basement of the middle of the row house. 

A fast entry into the basement found a small fire with heavy smoke conditions.  Also located in the basement were two cages containing several birds, including chickens and ducks.  The fire was knocked down quickly, and truck companies expedited ventilation.

The animals were removed from the house.  One firefighter was transported for a minor injury.
