May 22, 2007...Vito Maggiolo

Struggling against darkness and overcoming access problems, units under the command of the Special Operations Battalion successfully removed an injured worker from a construction site on Tuesday night, May 22nd.

A confined space rescue assignment was dispatched around 8:30 P.M. to #70 Eye Street S.E. They arrived to find a worker suffering traumatic injuries at the bottom of a 70 foot deep construction hole.

Firefighters from Squad 1 descended into the site, along with paramedic personnel, to stabilize and package the victim. Working in conjunction with Squad 2, they than secured the patient into a stokes basket, and lifted him to safety via a construction crane.

The worker was than transported to a local trauma center with serious but non life-threatening injuries.
