Fire ripped through an
occupied garden apartment building in the Shaw neighborhood, Friday,
April 13th, resulting in a 2nd alarm and displacing a number of
occupants.
The blaze was reported around 1:30 A.M. at 1300 6th Street N.W., a
three-story structure. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire showing,
with flames on the second and third floors extending into the cockloft.
All residents were safely evacuated, but the fire burned so fiercely
that the roof over the fire building was burned off. A well built fire
wall contained the fire to the building of origin, with only minor
extension.
It took firefighters waging an aggressive interior attack about an hour
to bring the flames under control. |
