Several residents of a Northeast apartment building
were forced to flee down firefighter's ladders as flames swept through
the structure's first floor on Wednesday, May 18.
Fire was already showing from the ground floor rear as box alarm units
arrived at the three story structure at 4242 Edson Place N.E. In
addition, such heavy smoke was pushing from the third floor that
firefighters believed another blaze was burning there. Faced with this
information as well as reports of trapped occupants, Command 2 sounded
the second alarm.
It was quickly determined that there was no fire on the top floor,
although flames did extended slightly to the second floor. Handlines
quickly extinguished the blaze prior to the arrival of most second alarm
companies. |
