Types of Alarms

LOCAL ALARM:  This can be for electrical short, smoke in the area, alarm bells, car fire, trash/wood fire, in/out side gas leak, etc.  One to three engine companies, one or two truck companies, a battalion chief (It is up to communications what is dispatched on these types of calls).

BOX ALARM:  This alarm is for smoke or fire in a row-house, school, commercial store or office building, detached dwelling, hospital, apartment house, church, etc.  Five engines, two truck companies, a battalion chief and a rescue squad.

WORKING FIRE DISPATCH:  This alarm is for one extra engine company, one truck company and battalion chief as well as the air unit, fire investigation unit and the Safety Officer.

SECOND & THIRD ALARM: Four engine companies, two truck companies, one squad and another battalion chief (on each alarm).

FOURTH & FIFTH ALARM: Four engine companies only. The OIC may request truck companies, if needed. On auto accidents with the report of person(s) pinned, the assignment will be one engine, one truck company, a rescue squad, and a battalion chief.

On auto accidents without the report of person(s) pinned, only 1 engine company.
