| Heavy Fire Greets Fourth Battalion Firefighters |

Heavy fire issuing from the basement greeting units arriving at the scene of a Petworth neighborhood box alarm early Saturday morning, March 28th.
Before it was over, flames had extended above to both floors and attic in the two story row structure at 3731 9th Street NW. Firefighters also had to contend with pack rat conditions and a first floor that was compromised by the intense blaze below.
It took the box plus a working fire dispatch assignment approximately 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

| Third Battalion Apartment Building Fire |

Third Battalion firefighters waged a fierce battle against a blaze that severely damaged an apartment building in Anacostia on Friday evening, March 27.
Heavy fire was showing from the ground floor level of the occupied, three story garden apartment at 1850 U Street S.E. when first due units arrived around 11 PM. Residents were also in need of rescue on the top floor.
A working fire dispatch was sounded as the fire quickly swept upwards to the second and third floors and ate its way into the cockloft.
Despite the intense fire conditions, all residents were either safely removed by firefighters or sheltered in place. An aggresive interior attack was finally able to subdue the flames without the need for any additional help.
At least one resident had to be treated for smoke inhalation..

Fourth Battalion firefighters battled a row dwelling fire on Thursday night, March 26th.
Units were dispatched to #46 Farragut Place NW around 9:15pm and found fire on the second floor of the house. An interior attack was initiated and a working fire dispatch sounded.
The blaze was contained to the structure of origin, and there were no injuries.

| Man Rescued From N.W. Apartment Fire |

DC firefighters rescued a man trapped in his blazing Northwest apartment on Sunday, March 22nd.
A box alarm assignment arrived at 1334 Fort Stevens Drive NW around 5PM to find fire burning on the top floor of the three story apartment building.
Battling their way into the well involved apartment, Fourth Battalion companies found a person inside and dragged him out to safety.
The victim suffering from serious burns and severe smoke inhalation, was rushed to Medstar.
The blaze was brought under control with the assistance of a working fire dispatch.

| Smoke Showing on Arrival in N.E. House Fire |

At 1702 hours, a box alarm was transmitted for smoke in an apartment at 1839 D street NE.
First arriving Engine 8 initially reported nothing evident from the street. Upon entry they encountered decent smoke conditions in several occupancies. Once inside companies began reporting possible fire in the crawl space and walls.
With smoke conditions not letting up, companies vented the entire building and began opening up the walls. Eventually the crawl space under the first floor apartment was opened up with saws and the rest of the fire, which appeared to have started near the hot water heater, was extinguished.

| Lisner Hall Hazmat Incident |

A significant heating oil spill in the basement of a George Washington University building brought a considerable response of DC fire and EMS resources to the scene on Saturday night, March 14th.
Units initially dispatched to the call at Lisner Hall. 2023 G Street NW, found that oil had overflowed from tanks into a 60x60 room below grade, with potentially explosive fumes from the spill filling the structure.
The assignment was upgraded to a box alarm, and several precautionary lines were stretched. Adjacent buildings and the sewer system were also checked for product impingement and fume propagation.
It took approximately 2 hours to stabilize the situation. There were no injuries

Units responded at 12:29 PM with Battalion 3 for the report of the building fire in the 4600 block of Livingston Rd., SE.
First arriving units found heavy smoke pouring from the roof of the one-story commercial structure. There were reports that people were trapped on the roof. A survey of the area found no one trapped - but a collection of roofing materials had somehow caught fire.
The fire also involved air handling equipment. The fire was quickly extinguished with no injuries or downward extension. Investigators were working to learn the cause.

A serious two car MVA in the city's Petworth section resulted in one serious trauma injury on Sunday evening, March 8th.
Engine 24 was initially dispatched to the accident at Georgia Avenue and Ingraham Street NW, and a rescue alarm was sounded due to reports of occupants trapped.
Although no one had to be extricated, one vehicle had the rear severely crushed, and that occupant was transported to Medstar. A second patient from the other vehicle was also treated and transported.

A defective furnace led to a basement fire in the U Street corridor area on Tuesday, March 3rd.
A box alarm assignment arrived at 1541 T Street NW around 3 in the afternoon to find smoke in the row dwelling. A working fire dispatch was sounded as firefighters began to search for the source.
The fire was quickly located in the basement and rapidly brought under control. There were no injuries.
