One person had to be extricated from an overturned vehicle following a two vehicle crash on Monday afternoon, June 28th.

The wreck took place at the intersection of Irving Street and Park Place NW. One of the vehicles flipped onto its side and came to rest against a traffic signal.

Members of Rescue Squad 2 removed the roof in order to access the trapped occupant, who was transported from the scene as a trauma patient. A second victim was also taken to an area hospital.

Large Outside Fire At DC Trash Plant..Engine 24 was dispatched to the 4900 Bates Rd. N.E. for the report of an outside fire . Upon arrival on the scene they encountered a 100 x 100 large pile of debris that had been started by a backloader with a broken electrical line .

A  very large column of smoke could even be seen in Beltsville by "E". A Box Alarm and the Water Supply Task Force was sounded and companies were ordered to lay dual lines.

A welcome site of the Rehab unit was well recieved since the temperature had just hit 98 degrees, and with that heat level everyone did another great job.

I 295 Near Laboratory Road

June 3, 2010: Photos and Story by Vito Maggiolo

Two drivers suffered serious injuries after their dump trucks slammed into each other on I-295 near Laboratory Road on Thursday afternoon, June 3rd.

The impact, on the northbound lanes, was severe enough to trap one driver in the cab of his vehicle, and send the other truck careening onto its side.

Firefighters from Rescue Squad 3 freed the pinned victim, and the Hazmat Unit dealt with diesel fuel spills from both vehicles. Due to the nature of the accident, Rescue Squad 2 also responded to the scene with the Heavy Rescue Wrecker, but its services were not required.

Due to the possibility that an occupant of the overturned truck may have been ejected, the Special Ops search and rescue dog, Cazo, with its handler, Sergeant Chris Holmes, conducted a secondary search of the area, which proved negative.

One of the injured was flown from the scene by the US Park Police Eagle helicopter. The accident also brought the evening rush hour on I-295 to a standstill.
