Squad 3 Rescues 3 civilians 1314 T Street S.E. |
February 6 , 2010
On Saturday, February 6, 2010 during a heavy snowstorm, Washington DC Rescue Squad 3 (Anacostia) was enroute to a structure collapse in the Capitol Hill area when they discovered a rowhouse fire not far from the entrance to I-295. Rescue Squad 3 was first to arrive and encountered heavy fire and smoke coming form the 2nd floor of a 2-story rowhouse located at 1314 T Street, SE, Washington, DC. They took what water they had with them, several 'cans' and immediately entered the house learning that people were still inside.
As other units were being dispatched and without the protection of a hose line, the crew from RS3 found a total of 3 victims, 1 in the building of origin and 2 from the dwelling next door. Once removed they were handed over to EMS personnel. The blizzard-like conditions hampered firefighters efforts to position the apparatus close to the building. One victim was removed via a ground ladder. For the most part the fire was confined to the building of origin and was knocked down in about 10 minutes. Damage was significant and a neighboring house had some collateral damage. Three persons were treated on the scene and transported to area hospitals.

February 2nd,, 2010
Story by Vito Maggiolo
Scores of residents were forced out of their apartments by an electrical fire in the pre-dawn hours of Monday, February 2nd.
The blaze was reported around 4:30 AM in a three story apartment building at 1514 Newton Street NW. Firefighters found flames around the basement electrical meter, and a working fire dispatch was requested.
Although the fire was confined to the electrical room, smoke and the complete shut down of utilities forced approximately 75 people, many of them children, from their apartments. Incident command requested a metro bus for shelter from the bitter cold morning temperatures, and subsequently worked with The Office of Emergency Management to open a community center nearby.
