A manhole blaze in the heart of the Adams Morgan neighborhood brought a contingent of D.C. firefighters to the scene on Wednesday afternoon, February 25th.
Units responding to a report of smoke in the area found a blown manhole in the 1800 block of Columbia Road with smoke and fire issuing from it.
A precautionary line was stretched, and firefighters checked nearby buildings for possible extension until Pepco arrived to control the situation.

One woman was critically burned and a second person also suffered injuries during a two alarm blaze in the Mount Pleasant area on Monday morning, February 23rd.
The alarm was sounded in the 2 AM hour for 1650 Harvard Street N.W. Firefighters arrived at the large apartment building to find fire burning in a fourth floor apartment, and the working fire dispatch was sounded.
Due to the potential life hazard and smoke conditions, a second alarm was sounded. However, the fire was confined to the apartment of origin. Both occupants of that apartment were transported with burn injuries.
Cause of the blaze appears to be a candle that tipped over.

A sunny weekend afternoon was punctuated by a working fire in a 16th Street apartment building on Saturday, February 21st.
Box alarm companies arrived at 2440 16th Street NW around 2:45 PM to find fire on the 3rd floor of the six story apartment building. An interior attack confined the blaze to one apartment.
Residents were sheltered in place until smoke conditions could be cleared. There were no reported injuries.

Fourth Battalion firefighters battled a house fire in the Petworth neighborhood on Tuesday night, February 17th.
A box alarm assignment arrived at 929 Sheperd Street N.W. around 10 PM to find fire showing from the second floor of the two story middle of the row dwelling.
Units battling the blaze on the interior were able to contain the fire before it could extend to exposures.
A working fire dispatch was sounded. Searches were negative and there were no injuries.

No one suffered serious injuries and there was no structural damage after a car struck a Georgia Avenue McDonalds restaurant late Friday night, February 14.
A collapse assignment was initially dispatched for the report of a vehicle into the building in the 7400 block. First arriving companies found a car that struck an outside wall of the store, with the only occupant, the driver, sitting inside the establishment.
He was evaluated by EMS units on the scene.

| Fire in Rear Addition of 1337 Vermont Ave. NW |

A fire burning in the rear of a Vermont Avenue home caused some tense moments on Thursday afternoon, February 12th.
The original dispatch was for flames coming from the rear basement in the 1300 block of 13th Street N.W. Firefighters searching for the blaze initially thought they had a shed involved, but than discovered that fire was actually burning in a rear addition at 1337 Vermont Avenue.
A working fire dispatch was sounded as units worked their way to the seat of the blaze. It was than extinguished in short order with no injuries.

A brush fire fanned by wind gusts brought DC firefighters to the national arboretum on Sunday evening, February 8th.
The initial assignment was a box alarm for a reported building fire on the grounds of the property. However, it was found only to be brush burning in the 1700 block of Bladensburg Road N.E.
Battalion 1 held all units until the fast moving blaze could be contained.

DC firefighters rescued the occupant of a blazing apartment in Southwest Washington during the wee hours of Sunday, February 8th.
The two alarm fire erupted shortly after 3:30 AM on the fifth floor of 1200 Delaware Avenue SW, a city housing building catering to senior citizen residents.
Units arrived to find heavy fire showing, and a person trapped on the balcony of the apartment involved.
The victim, who was seriously burned, was taken down an aerial ladder and rushed to the hospital.
Due to the volume of fire and life hazard, a second alarm was sounded. However, an aggressive interior attack was able to confine the fire primarily to the apartment of origin.
In addition to the burn victim, several others were transported to area hospitals, including a police officer with smoke inhalation.

DC firefighters were called to the Trinidad neighborhood in Northeast to battle a basement fire on Saturday, February 7th.
The box assignment arrived at 1505 West Virginia Avenue NE around 11:30 AM to find the blaze in a two story middle row dwelling.
An aggresive interior attack quickly knocked down the flames, although there was minor extension to the first floor.
An occupant initially reported as trapped was later discovered outside the home. A working fire dispatch was sounded, and there were no injuries

UNITS RESPONDED FOR THE REPORT OF A CAR INTO SOLLYS BAR ON THE 'U' CORRIDOR ON 2-7-09 JUST PAST MIDNIGHT. THIS TAXI CRASHED INTO THE BAR AT 11TH STREET AND U NW. FIVE PATIENTS WERE TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL AND THE COLLAPSE TASK WAS DISPATCHED TO ASSIST UNITS ON THE SCENE.
