Vito Maggiolo, volunteer video photographer for DC Fire and EMS, has won second place in the TV News Story category of the International Association of Firefighters 2009 Media Awards Contest.

The story that won was titled “Mount Pleasant Street Fire.” It documents efforts by firefighters to rescue civilians and later themselves as maydays were sounded during the fire, which destroyed a large apartment building. The reporter was WUSA TV 9 correspondent Dave Statter.

The same story was given an “Award of Excellence” earlier this year in the video division general news category of the White House News Photographers annual “Eyes of History” contest.
